Department of General Education and Interdisciplinary Studies


Department Purpose

The Department of General Education and Interdisciplinary Studies is designed to give students a solid academic foundation encompassing critical thinking, public speaking, writing, and technological skills.  The courses in this  department are designed to encourage students to examine the common issues and themes that run throughout our history, culture, and society, providing a well-rounded, human experience.  Attention is given to theoretical foundations, hands-on application, experiential learning, and the development of media skills.  The division strives to enhance students’ aesthetic and artistic awareness while improving skills in spoken, written and digital formats. 

A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts degree Interdisciplinary Studies must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours. Total credits include at least 48 credit hours of General Education courses. Additional courses may be required to build fundamental concepts. A candidate must earn the grade of “C” or better in all major courses.
