College of Arts and Sciences


The College of Arts and Sciences has seven (7) undergraduate departments: the Department of Computer Information Sciences, the Department of Humanities, the Department of Mass Communications, the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Department of Religion and Philosophy, the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

The Department of Computer Information Sciences offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems and a minor in each discipline.

The Department of Humanities offers two (2) Bachelor of Arts degrees. These degrees are in English, and Liberal Studies. The department also offers minors in French and Spanish. The department has temporarily suspended the major in Spanish and the minors in African American Studies, Arabic, English, and History.

The Department of Mass Communications offers one (1) Bachelor of Arts degree. This degree is in Mass Communications. The department offers a minor in the discipline.

The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics offers three (3) Bachelor of Science degrees. These degrees are in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. The department offers minors in all of these disciplines. The department has temporarily suspended majors and minors in Environmental Science, Physics, and Mathematics Education.

The Department of Religion and Philosophy offers one (1) Bachelor of Arts degree. This degree is in Religion and Philosophy. The department also offers minors in Philosophy and Religion. The department has temporarily suspended majors in Religious Studies.

The Department of Social Sciences offers three (3) Bachelor of Arts degrees. These degrees are in Political Science and Political Science with a concentration in International Relations, Psychology, Sociology and Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice. The department also offers minors in Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. The department has temporarily suspended the major in International Relations.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts offers one (1) Bachelor of Arts degree. This degree is in Visual and Performing Arts with a concentration in Music. The department also offers a minor in Music. The concentration in Theatre has been temporarily suspended.

The College of Arts and Sciences also offers a minor in Military Studies through the Army ROTC program. This minor is only open to students who complete all requirements for commissioning.

Consistent with the mission of the University regarding educating the whole person, all teaching and training in the College of Arts and Sciences is integrative with regard to subject matter, concepts and character development.
