ENG 402 Women Novelists of the 19th Century (3) This course is an introduction to nineteenth century U.S. literature written by women. The course emphasizes fiction, but the reading list includes poetry, autobiography, essays, diaries, and other written materials. Topics include the social construction of gender, the participation of writers and readers in processes of social change, the cultural work of texts, and literary activism.
