This non-degree program is for individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher in education or related majors. Candidates enroll in courses to meet the North Carolina state certification requirements. Lateral entry students are already employed in the public schools and need to complete a course of study to meet State requirements that fully qualify them as teachers. All candidates must also be formally admitted to the Teacher Education Program. To be formally admitted, candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 at the time of their graduation from a four-year accredited college or university. If candidates do not have the required GPA of 2.8, they must take and pass the PRAXIS I exam in order to be formally admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
